The story of The Netherlands is intertwined with water. Water as a bitter enemy and also as a source of trade and prosperity. Batavialand brings the continuous struggle against water to life. It shows the reclamations and building of the dykes and also the expeditions, the overseas trade and the specialist knowledge of The Netherlands used worldwide. Over 7,000 years of living on the boundary between water and land: you will hear, see and feel it at Batavialand!
Batavialand is located in a fitting place, along the ‘Markermeer’ lake, in the city of Lelystad. Lelystad is the capital of the Flevoland province and built on reclaimed land. The city lies 3 meters below sea level.
Batavialand offers activities both indoors and outdoors. Outside you will find the shipyard with ‘The Batavia’, the famous replica East Indiaman. Walking on the deck of this magnificent ship takes you back to the 17th century. The museum will surprise you, offering maritime exhibitions, presentations and activities for even the youngest visitors.
Batavialand is a great, educational and interactive day out for the whole family!
